Dunedin International Airport Limited (DIAL) is a publicly unlisted company, established under the Airport Authorities Act 1966, and incorporated in 1988.

The two equal shareholders are the Crown and Dunedin City Holdings Ltd, which is owned by Dunedin City Council. They took over the airport’s assets from the Dunedin Airport Authority in 1989. In 1999, the airport’s name was changed to Dunedin International Airport Limited.

DIAL is a highly diversified operation with multiple sources of income. It contributes an estimated 1.5% of the region’s GDP and, directly and indirectly, provides employment for more than 250 people.

Executive team

John McCallChief Executive

The Chief Executive, John McCall, joined the airport industry in 1988 to undertake the restructuring and transition of Dunedin's airport from a non-commercial local and central government enterprise to a public corporate entity. John is a past president of the Aviation Industry Association of New Zealand and on the board of the New Zealand Airports Association. He is an Associate Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management, a trustee of Tourism Dunedin, a director of Taieri Gorge Railway Limited, and a member of the Dunedin City Council’s economic development initiative - "Project Gateway".


Peter FordBusiness Manager

Business Manager, Peter Ford, is a qualified chartered accountant and graduate of Otago University.

He has worked for Dunedin International Airport Ltd since 1999 having previously worked for Arthur Barnetts, Hallensteins and accounting firms in Dunedin. Whilst at Arthur Barnetts Peter was closely involved in the feasibility analysis, funding and financial structure required for the construction of the Meridian Shopping Mall.


Richard RobertsOperations Manager

Operations Manager, Richard Roberts, has an extensive engineering and project management background in both England and New Zealand. He arrived in New Zealand in 1996 as a permanent resident and joined Dunedin International Airport in 1999.

In 2006, Richard was awarded the national title, Airport Personality of the Year.

Investor Information 

The company’s principal activity is the operation of Dunedin International Airport. Land adjacent to the airport, held for possible expansion, is dairy farmed in partnership with a sharemilker. A small residential housing estate adjacent to the airport provides rental income.

2011 results


TOTAL PASSENGER NUMBERS at 776,508 compare to 778,190 last year, a decrease of 0.2%.
DOMESTIC PASSENGER NUMBERS at 710,845, compare to 728,689 last year, a decrease of
2.4%.
INTERNATIONAL PASSENGER NUMBERS at 65,663 compare to 49,501, an increase of 32.6%
TOTAL REVENUE is $8,505,456, an increase of 4.3% on last year and an increase of 4.1% against
budget.
SHAREHOLDERS’ FUNDS at $27,708,570 compares to $27,221,667 last year, an increase of 1.8%.
OPERATING SURPLUS AFTER TAX of $713,592 compares to a deficit of $50,357 last year.
NON-AERONAUTICAL INCOME, at 68.7% of total revenue, compares to last year’s figure of 64.7%.

Landing Charges Schedule for Dunedin Airport effective 1 December 2011

Review of Airport Charges 

Dunedin Airport is required under the Airport Authorities Act 1966 to consult with its substantial customers prior to changing prices for certain services. This process has been completed and we have made our pricing decision under the Act for our landing and terminal charges for the 2012 - 2016 pricing period. These prices are effective from 1 December 2011.

Pricing Proposal Consultation Document
This document, together with the accompanying information, contains DIAL's proposed charges for landing at our airport and for the use of our passenger terminal for the 1 October 2011 to 30 June 2016 pricing period. This will be the first increase in our terminal and landing charges since 2001.
