Dunedin International Airport announces parking changes October 22 2009
A number of changes are on the way for the Dunedin International Airport car park, including a new tariff and alternative options for paying for parking.
CEO John McCall says the planned increases in charges are the first for almost five years and are simply a reflection of an ongoing $4 million car park redevelopment programme, initiated when the terminal redevelopment began in 2004.
“Our last increase in January 2005 was a modest one and the first in a decade.
“Even with this latest increase, Dunedin’s prices remain below those charged in other main centre airports and still include user-friendly features such as a free 15-minute period.”
The increases are modest. Charges for parking from 15-30 minutes will stay at $1, rising to $2 for 30-60 minutes parking, while parking for 60-90 minutes will rise from $2 to $3 and parking from 90-120 minutes will cost $4.
“Our short-term rates in particular remain lower than for other main centre airports,” says Mr McCall.
“All of them have a minimum charge of $3, rising quickly to as high as $13.50 for just two hours.”
The maximum parking charge for 24 hours will be increased by $3 to $18. Under the new tariff that maximum $18 will be reached after eight hours, meaning any parking over that period in a day will not incur any extra charges. Charges for longer-term parking, between two and seven days, will also rise but by between only 10-28 per cent.
Long-term annual car parking charges, for those who are frequent airport users, have also been increased.
Mr McCall says Dunedin International Airport Limited’s continuing investment in the car park is ongoing. Further improvements are on the way, including moving the rental car workshops to make way for more parks closer to the terminal.
Other changes are also being made with the introduction of a new automated credit card payment system that allows users to leave via an electronic booth, rather than having to use the regular payment booths.
New card systems are also being introduced for long-term car park users and taxi and shuttle operators.
The new charges will come into effect on the 23rd of November 2009.
